In a moment of immense pride and achievement, the Financing Alliance for Health (FAH) is thrilled to announce its recent recognition with the Collective Social Innovation Award from the esteemed Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. This prestigious accolade is a testament to FAH’s unwavering commitment to transforming healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa through collaborative efforts. The Schwab Foundation, a beacon in acknowledging global changemakers, has been promoting social innovation across diverse sectors since its establishment in 1998. In the 2024 Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards, FAH emerged as one of the standout recipients, celebrated for its outstanding contributions to reshaping the world for the better.
Led by our visionary founder and chief executive officer, Dr. Angela Gichaga, FAH was honored with the Collective Social Innovators award, a category reserved for cross-sector leaders who spearhead or facilitate groups addressing significant societal challenges. As an African-led partnership headquartered in Kenya, FAH has been at the forefront of collaborating with governments, donors, and the private sector to address systemic financing challenges in scaling primary and community health programs across sub-Saharan Africa. Over the past six years, FAH has championed the co-development of country-led policies, working with 22 governments and 16 countries to secure funding and bridge the annual community health budget gap exceeding $4.4 billion. Our goal is clear: mobilize USD 1 Billion in finance to integrate community health into health sector strategic plans, primary health, and global health security, thereby advancing Universal Health Care while scaling community health systems.
Expressing her gratitude for this remarkable achievement, Dr. Angela Gichaga stated, “Accepting this award from the Schwab Foundation fills us with great honor and joy. It reflects our unwavering commitment to improving healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa through collaboration. We are inspired to continue our mission with renewed determination.”
This accolade is not only a recognition of FAH’s dedication but also a celebration of collective social innovation, where multiple stakeholders unite to address complex issues that no single entity can tackle alone. The 2024 Social Innovation Awards by the Schwab Foundation spotlighted 16 organizations across four categories, collectively impacting the lives of 891 million people.
FAH is proud to be part of this extraordinary journey of transformation, fostering a responsible, equitable, and prosperous world. As we accept this award, we recommit ourselves to the mission of scaling community health systems and contributing to positive, lasting change in sub-Saharan Africa.
