Everyone should have access to healthcare, no matter where they live
The Financing Alliance for Health (FAH) is an Africa-based, African-led, and Africa-focused health financing technical expert dedicated to supporting African governments to better leverage existing funds and mobilize new funding for effective, scalable and sustainable health systems. We believe that financing is a key lever in driving greater access to health services. We strengthen health services by scaling up and integrating financing for primary and community health for global health security and universal health coverage.
Our Story
FAH was established in 2015, inspired by the vision of an influential group of global leaders. Among them were Hailemariam Desalegn, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Ray Chambers, Joy Phumaphi, Tim Evans, Paul Farmer, Chelsea Clinton, and Jeff Walker. Their collective recommendations during the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa laid the foundation for FAH, with a mission to transform global health financing and strengthen community health systems across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Vision:

Focusing Financing to improve health for all

Our Mission:

We partner with governments on all steps of financing to strengthen and sustain health systems; leveraging primary healthcare to attain universal health coverage

Up to 3 million additional lives per year could be saved by investing in primary health programs in Africa

More than 615 million

people in Africa have no access to basic health services. They face financial, physical and social barriers.

Community Health Workers (CHWs)

are revolutionizing healthcare by providing low-cost, high-quality services at the household level to communities that trust them. Millions of community health workers are not salaried, trained, supervised or equipped.

An additional $4.4 billion annually

is needed for community health programs in Africa - to train, supervise, equip and pay CHWs, while integrating them into the overall health systems.

While Governments

are willing to harness the power of Community Health Workers, financing remains one of the most significant systemic barriers.
