Overview
How can health policies be effectively integrated with a gender lens to deliver more equitable and sustainable outcomes? Led by the Ministère de la Santé et de l’Action sociale (MSAS), with technical support from the Financing Alliance for Health (FAH), this policy brief examines gender-related barriers faced by community health workers (CHWs) in Senegal.
The brief highlights gender inequalities in participation, recognition, and leadership within community health governance, particularly affecting women CHWs, who make up the majority of the workforce yet remain under-represented in decision-making spaces. Drawing on national evidence, the policy brief puts forward clear, actionable recommendations to strengthen inclusive, accountable, and gender-responsive governance across community, health post, and district levels.
