Drawing on cases and lessons learned from practitioners around the world, this series presents an in-depth exploration of the financing pathways crucial to building well-designed, adequately resourced, and sustainable community health systems.

Understand importance of costing to help policymakers, managers, planners, and providers make rational, evidence-based decisions about the financing and delivery of health care.

Explore how and why a convincing case for investing in community health systems is critical to mobilizing more resources in the space.

Identify new sources of funding that are crucial when financing community health systems.

Learn political prioritization of community health — at the country and global levels — as a prerequisite to building, financing, supporting, launching sustainable community health systems.

Learn public financial management (PFM), its role in community health, and effective practices for successful PFM.

Conduct a multi-year resource map to analyze the resources available for a community health system & gap analysis to indicate the funding required for the implementation of a Community Health System.

Compile learnings from other courses and create an investment plan: a guide that helps the government align funding actors, set vision & target for the mix of financing, and provide a platform for accountability to funding commitments.

Health Systems Accelerator (HSA) Fellowship Program

The Health Systems Accelerator (HSA) Fellowship Program is an initiative by FAH aimed at equipping Ministry of Health and Ministry of Finance personnel with essential skills in health systems strengthening, leadership, governance, and health financing. Through this 9 – months long program, fellows gain the expertise to address critical health challenges, particularly in advancing Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH) outcomes.

How Does the Program Work?

Foundations

Starting with online self-paced learning and an intensive bootcamp, fellows gain foundational knowledge in health financing and policy.

Mentorship and Coaching

Fellows receive continuous 1:1 mentorship from FAH experts and participate in personalized coaching to address health system gaps.

Fieldwork and Action

In-country immersion experiences allow fellows to apply their skills in real-world settings. Each fellow is required to choose and lead a health systems reform in their country, collaborating with their mentors and other fellows on strategy and policy development.

Cross-Country Learning

Through in-person visits, webinars, and conferences, fellows engage in knowledge exchange, gaining a broader perspective on health systems across Africa.

Graduation

At the program’s end, fellows present the reforms they led, are recognized and certified, ready to lead and transform healthcare within their respective regions.
